Qatar is about halfway through its lengthy process of equipping its wide-body aircraft with Qsuite. The airline has a huge fleet of more than 200 planes, so this is a long and complicated process, as it cannot take significant amounts of aircraft out of service at once. Some aircraft, like its Airbus A350-1000s, all have Qsuite installed, as these were all newly delivered after the product was released. The airline has announced that its Airbus A380s will not be fitted with the product, as it plans to retire these aircraft.

Qatar 777 Qsuite Routes

It can be confusing to determine which routes from the United Kingdom to Qatar’s global hub in Doha (DOH) have Qsuite and which do not. As a general rule, here is the status of various aircraft type Qatar operates on long-haul services:

  • Airbus A380 (10 aircraft in fleet) — None fitted with Qsuite, no plans to do so
  • Airbus A330 (19 aircraft in fleet) — None fitted with Qsuite, no plans to do so
  • Airbus A350-900 (39 aircraft in fleet) — 10 fitted with Qsuite
  • Airbus A350-1000 (14 aircraft in fleet) — All fitted with Qsuite
  • Boeing 787 (30 aircraft in fleet) — None fitted with Qsuite, no timeline to refit
  • Boeing 777-200 (9 aircraft in fleet) — Seven fitted with Qsuite
  • Boeing 777-300 (48 aircraft in fleet) — 25 fitted with Qsuite

Do remember these routes and planes are always subject to last-minute, unforeseen aircraft swaps for a number of reasons. This is certainly frustrating but common in the airline industry.

Noting that caveat, as of February 2020, here is the status of Qatar’s U.K. routes:

Qatar

Qatar Qsuite 777-200lr

  • Cardiff (CWL) to Doha (DOH) — Daily flight, operated by a Boeing 787 with no Qsuite.
  • Edinburgh (EDI) to Doha (DOH) — Double daily flight, operated by an Airbus A350-900, which usually do not feature Qsuite.
  • Manchester (MAN) to Doha (DOH) — Triple daily, operated by a mix of Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft. From February 2020, QR27 and QR28 and from March 2020, QR21 and QR22 will feature Qsuite.
  • Birmingham (BHX) to Doha (DOH) — Four times weekly Boeing 787 service with no Qsuite.
  • London Gatwick (LGW) to Doha (DOH) — Triple daily service, usually two times with a Boeing 787 with no Qsuite. Third flight (QR328) may be operated by a Boeing 777-300, however, this is likely to be an older version without Qsuite.
  • London Heathrow (LHR) to Doha (DOH) — Seven times daily with a mix of Airbus A380, Boeing 777-300 and Airbus A350 aircraft. Despite the complex aircraft mix on this route, this is actually the best option for Qsuite. As this is such a premium route, Qatar has virtually guaranteed Qsuite on certain flights and has put several refitted or newly delivered Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to Heathrow services. For (almost) guaranteed Qsuite, aim for the following Heathrow routes: QR1/QR2, QR5/QR6, QR7/QR8, QR15/QR16. Qatar does regularly change its Heathrow aircraft schedules in terms of which type of aircraft is planned to operate which frequency, though you still have a very good chance of a Qsuite booking sticking if you book the flights listed above.

Qsuite can be booked with Qatar Airways’ own Qmiles or with partner airline miles such as Avios or American Airlines AAdvantage miles.
